For those experiencing a loss, the holidays can be an excruciatingly painful time. Death, separation, divorce, illness, family trauma, job loss or moving to a new location can result in losses that make this time of year difficult.

Therefore, a few practical tips:

PREPARE - The ambush of emotions can attack at any time; prepare beforehand.
TRIMMING - If old ornaments or trimmings cause too much pain, don't hang them this year. Put them aside for another time.
SHOP online if going to the mall is too stressful.
COPING STRATEGY - Have the phone number of your counselor, pastor, church, close friend or hotline already available by your phone. Make the commitment to call someone if negative thoughts get too fierce.
LIGHT - Get some sunshine. Winter can take its toll on your emotions by the loss of sun you experience.
SET BOUNDARIES - Precisely explain to your family and friends what you are capable of doing this year, and what you aren't. Don't let others guilt you into taking on more than you can handle.

More and more, NCCC is in need of individuals who are available to make hospital calls during the day. And, more and more, as a community growing throughout our years together, we have friends and family with medical changes that require them to spend a day or more in the hospital.

Do you enjoy visiting with others, have a servant heart, and a few hours of free time? If you would be interested in representing NCCC in our hospital calling ministry, or just want to learn more about what is appropriate in a hospital setting, we would like to add a few basic skills to your tender heart.

Christ caring for people through people--that is the motto of Stephen Ministry.

The role of the Stephen Minister is to bring the love of God into the lives of people who are going through a difficult time or experiencing a crisis.

What do Stephen Ministers do? They listen to you, care for you, support and encourage you, and pray for you. And, in the midst of this confidential, one-to-one, caring relationship, the healing love of God comes pouring through.

The COMFORTERS share the warmth of God's love through the work of their hands! Although these pictures were taken at the Saturday meeting during the Hallelujah weekend, we normally meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:00am-noon in the Praise Place. You don't have to be able to sew to join this ministry--we also need measurers, cutters, knotters, ironers, and labelers.
